Summer Staff & ELF Application

Adults & Teens: Want to Be Part of the Magic?

Staff Roles at Imaginorium Programs

Do you want to be a mentor to the next generation of awesome geeky kids?
Are you kind and compassionate, seeking to lift others up rather than tear them down?
Can you promote justice, equality, and cooperation?
Do you enjoy being part of a creative (if sometimes chaotic) environment?
Will you insist on good boundaries in adult/child relationships?

We need Professors (adults) and House ELFS (teens) to fill our Harry Potter-inspired Wizarding Academy staff as well as a few more Jedi Masters and DROIDS.

There are teaching and non-teaching roles. Lesson plans are usually provided, though you may have input if you want. Costumes and characterization are part of the fun. We provide an immersive theatrical experience for children and youth, welcoming them into each Wizarding Academy with houses, classes, challenges, games, and more.

You may apply for one program or more, full-time or part-time. Several part-time positions may be combined. Any staff member can be a Head of House and all staff are assigned to a be part of a house.

For Teens:

ELFS - Enriching Life through Fun & Service (Junior Counselors)

House ELFS are highly valued at our Wizard Academy. Younger students look up to them as role models. Teens are always welcome to join us as students.
All staff must provide a RI BCI (background check), complete both character & safety trainings, and follow our code of ethics.
Compensation:
Staff are paid stipends equivalent to the camp registration unless otherwise determined.

Teen positions (ELFS) are unpaid. If a staff member is a parent of a camper, they may receive free registrations for their kids or a discount (for part-time) if they choose.

Who's Who? What do the different staff roles do?

Picture
Headmistress Iris Imaginoria (full-time, all the time)
  • Develops the programs, curriculum, marketing materials, scheduling, recruitment, budgeting, training, and more.
  • On-site director all day during all programs, including first to arrive on first day and last to leave on last day.
  • In our programs, Iris Imaginoria teaches Defense Against the Dark Arts and sometimes History of Magic and/or Muggle Studies.
  • The Headmistress found the key which led to The Rainbow Path and The Imaginorium.

Deputy Headmistress Leontyne De La Terre (full-time, all the time)
  • Assist with all behind-the-scenes preparations and keeping the structure of the programs going.
  • Professor De La Terre must have a time turner. She's everywhere and has answers to nearly everything. If you need to know, she's probably got the answer.
  • This professor may also teach some classes... usually Potions or Charms, but sometimes others. She's also an excellent Quidditch Coach, though she's glad to pass this duty to other qualified Quidditch lovers.

Mage of Magical Maladies (full-time)
  • Must be available during all hours of program (9 am to 3 pm) and during performances.
  • Attend to basic first aid needs of campers and assess emergency situations.
  • Must have first aid and CPR training.

Quidditch Coach (part-time)
  • Manage Quidditch equipment, making sure any necessary repairs are made before camp.
  • Teach the rules of Quidditch to both younger and older groups using cooperative and sportsperson skills.
  • Guide houses through at least 4 games (2 younger, 2 older) per Quidditch day (usually once a week).

Songleader (part-time)
  • Must arrive by NO LATER THAN 8:45 each day.
  • Teach house songs during house time and lead songs during assembly. If instruments are available, coordinate and/or play as well.
  • If available, also teach “Incantations” (singing) class to offer 1-2 songs as part of the showcase.

Director (full-time)
  • Work together to cast the shows using all student actors in speaking and non-speaking roles according to their auditions on the first day of theatre camp.
  • Rehearse each day for the theatre showcase, remembering above all that the process and kindness are more important than the product.
  • Work together with the backstage crew for any and all technical needs.
  • Inform the Headmistress if there are any questions about the script or changes that need to be made.

Before Care & After Care (part-time)
7 am-9 am and 3-5:30
  • Arrive by 6:45 a.m.  One b/c person will be entrusted with a key and expected to unlock building.
  • Provide attentive care as children arrive for camp, signing them in for the day.
  • After care begins promptly at 3 pm and runs till 5:30.
  • Provide attentive care as parents arrive to pick their children up, signing them out.
  • One a/c provider will make sure lights are off and lock the building.

Enchanters of Free Play (part-time)
  • Supervise students during lunch time. Many other staff members and ELFS take breaks at this time, so your job is really, really important.
  • Help each student find their lunch box from the lunch table. After they eat, remind them to clean up after themselves and put their lunch box back.
  • After they eat, they have free time, but they are not to run around. We have a variety of Harry Potter themed games they can play (at tables where the food has been cleaned up). They can also bring in other appropriate games, but if you see inappropriate games (like Cards Against Humanities, or, say, Cards Against Muggles), take them.
  • Electronics (phones) are still not allowed at lunch.

Heads of House (full-time)
  • Responsible for their house during house common time, including activities and snacks, opening assembly and Quidditch.

Teaching Professors (can be full or part-time)
  • Lesson plans will either be provided or guidance will be given in creating them. It’s important to follow the lesson plans as written because there is a flow to the overall camp structure.
  • Check to be sure all needed materials are present before class. They will be provided for you unless otherwise arranged.
  • Teach class, explaining directions clearly. Reinforce our theme and ask open-ended questions.  There are no right or wrong answers!
  • Clean up afterwards, especially if you share your classroom.
  • During class periods when you are not teaching, join in the other classes or take a break if needed.

Guides (preferably full-time)
  • Collect your class from the Great Hall , check the roster and make sure you have all your kids.
  • Know the map and schedule well.  Take your students to their classes.
  • During class, assist the professor however he/she needs.
  • If possible, take pictures and/or short video during each class.
  • At the sound of the bell, take your class flag and lead your class to the next room.
  • You may give or take house points.  If there are any discipline problems, it is your primary responsibility (not the professor’s).

Floating Photo Ghost (full-time)
  • Available during the entirety of camp and during all rehearsals & performances.
  • Takes photos and short videos and uploads them in timely manner to digital platform (not social media unless otherwise agreed upon).
  • Be willing to take the place of a guide for a few minutes if they need to leave the classroom.
  • In between classes, ghosts may wander the halls and talk to students.  You may also tease students within reason, but only if it does not interfere with the function of the classes.  Please do not single out individual students to torment, but keep your ghostly harassment to the entire class or house.
  • During the final dress rehearsal and performances, take videos and still photos to the best of your ability and upload to digital platform.

ELFS - Enriching Leadership through Fun and Service (full-time)
  • At our school, being a house ELF is a great privilege... and responsibility. Younger students look up to ELFS. They learn from ELFS. They want to be you.
  • ELFS bridge the gap between students and adults. They are sorted into houses, so they get to participate in the house cup competition, Quidditch, etc. We have some ELF specific activities throughout the program. But they also work hard, give selflessly, and make a huge difference in the lives of these children.
  • We expect them to follow the safety policy completely, both in action and in conversation. They are role models for the younger students and should stay, at all times, above reproach.
  • Each ELF is assigned to guide a class group.
  • Know the map and schedule well. After each class (at the sound of the bell), make sure the students know where they are going to get to their next class (taking them there if necessary).
  • During class, assist the professor however he/she needs.
  • ELFS may audition for the plays or should assist backstage.
  • About halfway through lunch, the ELFS deliver the Owl Post mail. This can be a real hoot!  They can choose one or two Owl Posts to real out loud (as howlers) if they wish, providing dramatic interpretations.
  • Take pictures. Send to the Headmistress. (But don’t post pics of kids on social media without checking first).
  • Do not have your phone out during class (except for pictures or emergency contact)! This is important. The students are not allowed to have electronics, so you should not either. NO TEXTING DURING CLASS.
